Three Years and Long Term Effects of The Pandemic on Courts
In life, there are always pluses and minuses. The same is true when you look at the effects of the Covid19 Pandemic on Florida’s Courts. On the positive side, courts have improved efficiency and are saving clients money, by achieving the switch to Zoom rather than in-person hearings. No longer does a lawyer need to charge for an hour of travel time, 15 minutes to park, 15 minutes to clear courthouse security and an hour waiting for the judge. But, since trials have become back-logged, it is estimated that it will take three (3) years for the court system to catch up. Additionally, personal interactions, networking and mentoring of young lawyers has been adversely affected.
